WHO WE ARE
Based in Houston, our family-owned studios are driven by a mission to share our love for playing in the mud to create beautiful things.
Our vision is to build spaces where everyone feels welcome to come as they are, freely explore their creativity, and experience the pure joy of making something unique.
EST. 2021
In May 2021, our journey began in a small, un-airconditioned warehouse in Cypress, Texas. It wasn’t much, but it was everything we needed to start bringing our vision to life.
We set out to offer something different from the typical pottery painting studios—a place where adults could unwind, get hands-on, and enjoy the process without committing to a lengthy, costly class.
SMASHED CLAY + STUDIO
We began producing our own colored clay, allowing customers to create vibrant, colorful pottery without the need for underglazing.
Through a technique called “slam wedging,” makers blend and smash together different colors of clay, creating stunning marbled designs with every piece.
This process inspired the name of our handbuilding workshop, Sip and Smash—where you can BYOB, hang out with friends, meet new people, and create something truly unique.
These workshops quickly became our signature experience, sparking the name Smashed Studio.
PROFILE TOOLS
Throwing pottery on the wheel is a challenge, and we wanted to make it enjoyable for everyone who visits our studio.
With our hour-long, try-it experiences, we faced some unique challenges. So, we began designing and making our own rib tools, which we call Profile Tools, right here in Houston.
These tools add playful designs to pottery, hide imperfections (like off-center clay), and carve out a foot for a cleaner, polished finish. Another perk—the texture-loving glazes look fantastic on our bold profiles.
After testing countless iterations in our studios, we found a design we LOVE, and now we’re thrilled to offer them online—making pottery fun, and rewarding for everyone.
CITYCENTRE
In October 2021, we expanded with our second studio at CityCentre.
Every weekend, we welcome hundreds of first-time potters who come to experience the joy of playing in the mud.
Surrounded by popular restaurants and shopping, our CityCentre location has become a go-to spot for date nights, girls' nights, and memorable celebrations.
SUGAR LAND TOWN SQUARE
In May 2022, we proudly opened our newest studio in Sugar Land Town Square, extending our creative experiences to a new community.
This studio offers both handbuilding and throwing experiences, along with paint-your-own-pottery sessions. We’re excited to create even more unique workshops in the future, providing everyone with new ways to play in the mud.
